IVF or the In Virto Fertilization is a multi-step fertilization treatment and takes several weeks to complete. The procedure is carried out by combining the female eggs and the male semen in a petri dish to develop fertilized eggs or embryos. The IVF process and the next few weeks after the embryo transfer is completed can be hectic. You may have many questions and queries regarding what you should do and what you should not. The doctors at the IVF clinic in Delhi, Chennai or any other cities in the country will give you all the details you need. However, to make things a bit easy for you, this article has a list of things you should avoid after IVF transfer. Let’s have a look at the things you must avoid.

Avoid Complete Bed Rest

After the transfer, you should take rest as your body goes through a lot during the transfer. Adequate sleep is necessary and you should get 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily. However, there is no valid proof that suggests complete bed rest to be necessary after IVF transfer. It is true that the previous fertilization treatment advised complete bed rest after embryo transfer. But with the advancement of the treatment, such restrictions have been removed.

Avoid Having Sexual Intercourse

There are different opinions on post embryo transfer sexual intercourse. Whereas some doctors say you can indulge in sexual contact, others strictly prohibit it. Sexual activities can trigger uterine construction that can cause disruption to the transferred embryo and hence can prevent the embryo plantation or can lead to miscarriage. It is better to avoid sexual intercourse after IVF transfer to eliminate the risk factors.

Extensive Exercise

Complete bed rest is not advisable after IVF transfer; however, extensive exercise is not acceptable as well. Some doctors at the top IVF centre in Delhi and other cities advise to get back to the normal lifestyle. You can do some light exercise, yoga or meditation. However, avoid being too active and make sure that you get enough rest.

Do Not Take a Pregnancy Test Right Away

Finally being able to conceive or the idea of getting pregnant is definitely exciting. You can be tempted to take a pregnancy test right ways or more often. Avoid doing so as it takes a couple of weeks for the placenta cells to release the human chorionic gonadotropin that is detected in the blood tests. It is better to wait a couple of weeks and then visit the clinic to get the pregnancy test done.

Do Not Ignore Unusual Symptoms

If you notice any unusual symptoms like severe stomach pain or sudden weight gain, contact your doctor or the clinic immediately. The top IVF centre in Delhi and other cities have emergency contact numbers for such scenarios. Under any circumstances, do not ignore any unusual symptoms.

Do Not Forget The Medications

After the IVF transfer, the doctors may prescribe medications as they see fit. The medications will help the process of pregnancy and therefore should be taken regularly. If you are showing any unusual side effects after taking the medications, contact your doctor.

The IVF process can be stressful and you need to be very careful after the process is done. You must avoid any mental or physical stress as it can have negative effects on embryo implantation. Smoking and alcohol consumption can also have negative effects. Talk to your doctor about both to be safe. Moreover, the ivf clinic in delhi and other cities in the country are there to help you throughout the process of IVF.
